triangle time

I am very happy to report that my mini bunting was well received.

The recipient sent me this lovely photo of the birthday tea at which it played its part.

On the strength of the bunting’s success I have been commissioned to make a vintage fabric cushion.

The colour scheme and design of said cushion has been left up to me…

Daunted? Moi?

You bet!

Second-guessing other people’s taste is not a task to be undertaken lightly. Especially someone with such evidently good taste.

So… I decided not to try. I decided to focus just on making a good design.

I have been toying for a while with the idea of using triangles in patchwork. They seem an appropriate follow-up to bunting.

I sought triangular interweb inspiration…

Beautiful, but not quite what I had in mind.

So I did a bit of thinking and scribbling.

I simplified.

I rummaged in my fabric cupboard.

I scribbled some more.

I rummaged some more.

It is not yet made, but there is definitely an idea brewing…

And that, I find, is usually half the battle.

Update: the finished article!

  1. It’s so funny, sometimes reading your posts is like looking at the contents of my own head from a slightly different angle! I have been filling my sketchbooks with triangle designs recently, but being quite new to patchwork I am determined to make one simple project with squares first; I have a habit of trying to run before I can walk and then putting myself off by cocking it up, I’m not going to do that this time! Looking forward to seeing your finished cushion cover, I bet it’ll be amazing. xx
