These pretty doilies are not quite what they seem.
Each forms part of an art installation by Laura Splan of freestanding computerized machine embroidered lace mounted on velvet.
The lace doily has traditionally referenced designs and motifs from nature and these are no exception.
Each of the doilies above represents a different viral structure.
They are beautiful – but deadly.
Such is nature.
