These beautiful embroidered tribal textiles from Uzbekistan are called suzanis, which means “needle.”
The ones pictured above are my pride and joy, bought via eBay in the days when such things could be had for less money than today.
I am constantly inspired by their amazing patterns, rich colours, magnificent workmanship and exotic origins.
Here are more suzani treasures to inspire and delight.

Suzanis are such lovely textiles – thanks for showing us. I have been inspired by their whirling forms and colours many times, most recently for an embroidered decorative fabric produced by Fabricut in the US. Sarah
I would love to see the fabric!
It’s called ‘Merry-go-round’ and was produced by Fabricut, USA in 2011 – embroidered motifs on linen – as part of our third collection for them.
It reminds me of ribbons!
I adore suzanis – sadly I found them after the price boom … I still hold some hope that I might find an affordable one some day! The colours and textures are amazing! Bee x
There are still bargains to be had on ebay – just search on “suzani”. I just checked and there are some lovely ones on sale from a seller called imperial-house-of-art currently at very reasonable prices.
Thanks a million for the link … going to hopover and take a look now … Bee x
