I’ve had a real adventure.
I am still reeling from it.
My heart was beating so fast that I felt a bit faint.
I bought a painting. A proper, beautiful painting.
It is by a local artist called Hannah Ransome. I don’t think my photos quite do it justice.
I had only ventured into the gallery once or twice before. It was closing down, so I just popped in for a look on the way back from the shops.
And there it was…
I went home and thought about it.
I am not rich. I have never bought a proper painting before.
But my heart carried on thudding and thudding.
So I went back for another look. I even haggled a bit.
And I bought it.
I had to phone a large cab to get it home. And one of the gallery ladies gave my lad a lift home as he, I and the painting wouldn’t all fit in the taxi!
But it is here. And I love it.
It is not yet properly hung, just propped on the radiator.
My partner isn’t so sure about it.
But I just had to have it. And had to share it.
Some things are just special.

It’s beautiful, modflowers, I can see why you fell for it – a certain misty nostalgia, makes me want to tuck my dress into my knickers and go paddling!
Yes! It puts me in mind of Dorset, where we spend a fair bit of time.
Beautiful painting … I know that feeling when something just has to come home with you …. if you love it you will never regret it …. Bee
Within a month the nerves of buying areal painting will have abated yet for years to come you’ll look at the picture and take pleasure from it. It is now part of the fabric of your life and what a better life for your new found ownership. Pleasure from art is deeper and more satisfying than pleasure from media I think. Like when a novel sticks in the mind longer than the transitory film. Both are good but one has more emotional investment in the consumption. Good on you Modflowers. Your new painting is a real treat. I am sure you will love the heck out of it for years to come.
Thank you! From a confirmed art lover such as your good self that means a lot.
Well, besides the fact that the painting looks beauuuutiful, and is right at home where you’ve placed it….I got a laugh out of you taking the precious painting in the cab and sending N off home in a stranger’s car!! Too funny. ;0)
I know! Once I’d got the painting to the front door I awoke as if from a dream and thought “eek! Bad mother alert!”
How lovely to have such a strong emotional reaction to something. Its important to surround yourself with beautiful things that you love and you certainly have done that.
