I’ve been thinking about my next stall and decided that the time has come at last to sort myself out a proper sign.
My first few stalls had a banner of printed punched paper flowers for a sign, as there wasn’t time to craft something more suitable.
But they got creased and bent and looked, well, a bit rubbish.
So they were replaced by a printed vinyl banner that I got for free because I bought some business cards.
But I don’t like it much.
It’s ok, I suppose. But it’s made of vinyl. *shudder*. Practical maybe, but yucky.
Also the photo resolution wasn’t quite high enough, so the banner is a bit pixellated. And the typeface isn’t quite right (best of a limited selection).
Time to craft something more suitable.
I have made appliqué lettering before and love the look of it.
So this was yesterday’s project…

The backing is a rather lovely bit of vintage fabric I’ve been saving for something special.
It was going to live on my bed.
I was going to have a white background for my sign.
But I considered. I want the message to be both pretty and professional. (Like my wares).
And what could be more important than putting your best face forward for the public?
So shouldn’t I use my best fabric?
But, as usual, I’m not quite decided yet…
White or patterned? Patterned or white? White makes a good stall background for my colourful cushions. But pattern is what I do…

I haven’t stitched the letters down yet, so there’s still time to change my mind…
Which do you prefer?

Hmmm, it’s tricky! The lettering looks amazing, and I love that fabric (I nearly bid on it myself, as so often happens with us two!) – I’m going to throw you a curve ball – have you got any plain coloured fabric? With the white border around the lettering, I think it would look great on a solid blue or green background, maybe with a patterned border? Sorry to muddy the waters! I’m sure it’ll look brilliant whatever you decide. xx
Patterned! And this is coming from someone that doesn’t like patterns. The one above the white makes me smile instantly.
I like the patterned best … I think the white doesn’t do the lettering justice …. I like Rachel’s idea …on the patterned one for some reason the o in mod doesn’t seem to stand out … can’t say why though … hope this helps .. Bee xx
I like Rachel’s idea too. The pattern on pattern makes it hard to read the writing. Gorgeous fabric though and now you can put it on your bed with a clear conscience!
The letters look great on the white background. How about adding a wide colourful border?
Thank you everyone! *holds head in total confusion*
I’ll be having a think about it tomorrow whilst looking at scarecrows and will let you know what I decide!
Patterned! It’s beautiful! You will find another piece to replace it, and if you don’t, you could always turn your sign into a headboard covering and make a new one! I LOVE the patterned banner because it’s so YOU. And so, best of luck on deciding and let us know which you end up going with!
I love patterned one best! The white is nice and pretty, but the pattern really stands out, and that’s what you want. Good luck!
