I have been working furiously on my wonky stars quilt this week. Today I have been piecing the back.
It is all sharp contrasts; blues, greens and yellows against crisp white.
Much as I like it, I find that my eyes grow tired looking at the same thing all the time. Inspiration becomes dulled.
I had a rummage and found a few vintage sheet scraps left in a bag that seemed to make a pretty combination.
I combined them with a piece of soft cream material, given to me ages ago by my sewing tutor.
The softer, creamy palette and faded sheet scraps make a nice change from all that white.
Very restful on the eye.
And when it is finished and filled with a cushion pad, it will be nice and restful on a chair, too!
Looking good! You’re making good progress, better than me! I’ve got side tracked by fairies! Ada
I like that a lot! Good vintage sheets are getting harder and harder to find.
I agree! I have to admit that I cheated and bought many of the fabrics I used in this patchwork cushion cover as fat quarters from sellers on Etsy.
That’s a smart cheat — all the fun of sheets without acres of scraps to deal with. I’ve actually wondered if that would be a good business to get into. Thrift stores are picked over, but yard sales, especially in some neighbourhoods, have good stuff still.
I think there’s always a market for pretty – and competitively priced – fabrics, either in fat quarters or scrap packs. I have wondered about selling them myself!
great minds. . .
