the urge to splurge

I went a little bit mad the other night.

I think it must have been something to do with being on my own whilst lad and his dad are away. It has a tendency to make me reckless and even – dare I say – a bit funny in the head sometimes.

Either that or I spent too much time looking at evilbay. I got sucked in, like a fly into a venus flytrap.

I was spat out a few minutes later a good few pounds poorer.

I splurged. I shouldn’t have, but I did.

I fought the frenzy to fork out, the desire to dissipate, but it didn’t go away. I caved in with just seconds to go.

But look at it!

Wouldn’t you have succumbed too?

It is winging it’s way to me as I type… I can hardly wait!

Oh come to me quickly, my pretty! I shall love thee and wear thee until I look like mutton dressed as lamb and you have fallen to pieces with old age! (And then I shall cut thee up and make a quilt from thy remains).

I do hope it fits…! ♥

the ones that got away

Ebay is a cruel mistress.

These vintage 1960s table mats are perfect.

But they are gone.

These are the things that would – should – have been mine.

If I’d had unlimited cash.

If someone else had not had that bit more to splurge.

These are the ones that got away.

The lovely things that I either bid on and didn’t win, or that I would have bid on if I could have.

I hope their new owners are enjoying them as much as I would have done.

birds of a feather

I thought I would share one of my favourite collections.

I don’t know anything about these bird dishes, other than that they are ceramic and were made by Carlton Ware in the mid 1960s.

Despite exhaustive internet research (well, ok, I googled Carlton Ware plus various descriptions) I haven’t been able to find a single reference to them.

I picked up my birdies on eBay over the last few years. They don’t come up very often and these days I can’t really afford them when they do.

I think my little flock is big enough now anyway.

If you look carefully, you can see that the one above got broken in the post – one of the drawbacks of eBay.

Thank heavens for superglue.

Bird of a feather, stuck together.
