grand plans & daydreams

You may remember my grand plan.

I haven’t actually done very much towards making my new sewing room – yet.

Apart, that is, from plotting and planning and daydreaming quite a bit.

And gathering inspiration. Although, it’s been surprisingly difficult to find pictures of sewing rooms that aren’t just that bit too twee for my liking.

I have, however, done a fair amount of sighing over the picture above.

I know it’s not actually a sewing room.

But that table! That orange chair! That parquet floor! THOSE PIGEONHOLES!

I don’t have a parquet floor to work with, but a sewing machine wouldn’t look amiss perched on that table… and those pigeonholes would look lovely stuffed with fabric scraps and sewing equipment.

So I’ve compiled myself a wish list:

  • a big sewing table
  • task lighting
  • storage for fabric
  • a comfy sewing chair
  • white painted floor
  • cushion storage
  • equipment storage
  • inspiration board / wall
  • ironing board

I’m not sure I can fit all those things into our small spare room. But I’m going to have a darn good try!

Here are some more of my sewing room inspirations…

sewing room and scissor storagelove the scissors on the wall!

All of these images are gathered on my sewing room inspiration pinterest board. If you happen across any sublime sewing spaces that you think I should add, do let me know, won’t you?

Hopefully, before too long, my sewing room dreams will be ready to move out of my fantasies to become reality…

How exciting! :)

candy for the eye

I love ‘eye candy’. Such a great phrase.

It’s what I read blogs for.

So it’s a brilliant name for a blog. In it’s native Norwegian language it translates as Sukkertøy for øyet – which I like possibly even better! (just don’t ask me to pronounce it!)

And the blog of this name is pretty brilliant too. Ida Susanne has a fantastic eye for visual candy of all kinds.

I thought I would share the loveliness around.

All of these images are taken from Candy for the Eye – my newest blog crush ♥

It’s always nice to pass candy around and share it with your friends ♥

the smallest room

I am very fond of our downstairs loo.

I’m not the only one – the whole family is very fond of it.

We transformed the cupboard under the stairs into a loo when we had a lot of work done downstairs a few years back. As with the kitchen, it was done on a shoestring budget.

We expected having a downstairs loo to be useful for visiting oldies and children, but little did we know how much we would come to love it ourselves.

Its so nice not to have to go running upstairs all the time, or have to wait whilst someone is in the shower!

And it solved the morning rush problem instantly.

I hope you won’t think that this is sharing too much.

But we really do love our little loo.

style envy: debi treloar

This is the home of photographer Debi Treloar.

I have admired her photography and her home for a very long time now.

I even displayed geekily fan-girlish behaviour once, by asking her where her living room rug was from.

She very graciously told me. But as anticipated, it was not something I was able to just pop down and pick up from Ikea. (It was by Nathalie Lete and from Caravan).

If I could choose to be blessed with one person’s style, it would be Debi’s.

(OK. I’ll stop gushing now).

sleeping on it

I’m currently struggling to make my bedroom into a place where I want to spend time when I’m not actually asleep.

I want to use vintage fabrics and I usually don’t have trouble combining them.

But somehow (even when it’s tidy, which frankly isn’t that often) the whole thing just isn’t coming together.

The whole project is suffering from a combination of a lack of energy, a lack of skill and a lack of will.

So, rather than rolling up my sleeves, getting out the paintbrushes and doing something about it, I found lots of nice pictures on the internet! :)

Yay for procrastination!

made for each other

Funny how things turn out sometimes.

I bought these two fabrics months apart, from different sources.

But these two cushions look like they were destined to be together.

A very happy couple.

Just made for one another.

Both cushions are now available to buy in my shop.

Perhaps someone will love them both!
